The first year and a half of running SemiQon has been busy for the founding team, but CEO Himadri Majumdar seems resolute and – well – happy.

This summer, SemiQon welcomed a bright trio of trainees eager to delve into the exciting world of a quantum technology startup. Their experiences offer a glimpse into the unique culture at SemiQon—a place where innovation, trust, and collaboration intertwine seamlessly.

SemiQon is the first company to operate within the laboratory premises of the Finnish National Metrology Institute VTT MIKES. The new facilities support SemiQon’s commitment to advancing world-class measurement expertise and infrastructure for building scalable quantum hardware.

Research groups around the world are now using these first-generation silicon-based chips helping the industry step faster to the million qubit level of quantum computing.

February 7, 2024 - SemiQon from Finland, and Canada’s CMC Microsystems announce a collaboration agreement to advance silicon-based quantum processor technology. Under the terms of the agreement, SemiQon will supply CMC with prototypes of its semiconductor-based quantum processor chips for research purposes. CMC scientists will collaborate with SemiQon to accelerate the development of processors for more powerful quantum computers suitable for the next generation of quantum computing – the million-qubit era.

SemiQon’s mission to make quantum computers more scalable, sustainable and cost effective made an impact on the jury, and SemiQon took third place in the global innovation competition.
